September 6, 2013
Hello again! Just a quick update as to upcoming events. Remember that the cookie dough fundraiser is finished Tuesday September 10, 2013. Money must be collected at time of order. The sixth grade teachers will have a meeting on September 18, 2013 from 12:15-3:00, so I will not be here in the afternoon. School picture day is September 26, 2013, and last but not least the students will take the Acuity predictive in math and ELA the week of 9-23-13 through 10-4-13.

It is amazing to believe that we are quickly approaching our fourth full week of school, and I finally updated the website. I apologize for the late notice, but I just can't seem to get my feet under me this year. I hope you find this website useful. It contains a link to my daily plans for the week as well as homework for the students. I try my best to keep them accurate, but things happen and things invariably get shifted. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. I also have a student blog, where many of my students will post some of their writing, or respond to questions. For the safety of all involved please use on first names, and do NOT give out personal information. This is still a PUBLIC website. If you would prefer a hard copy of our weekly newsletter, please let me know, and I will be happy to print one off for you!
Thanks so much,
Darcy Pearson

It's amazing to believe we are already four weeks into the 2012-2013 school year. I'm sure many of you already know about my student teacher, Miss McIntyre. I am very excited to have her in my classroom for the first eight weeks of school, and she is already doing a great job. It's very hard for me to give up control, especially so early on, but I am quite confident in her abilities. Please ask your students for details on the exciting things they are doing in class!
There is one other thing that I wanted to briefly mention. It is still very early in the school year, and we are already noticing a lack of motivation from students with regards to homework. The list of missing homework continues to grow daily. Miss McIntyre and I have come up with a detention policy. We will do our best to give twenty-four hour notice on detentions given for missing homework. Every Thursday we will tally up all missing homework. If your child is missing even one assignment they will be assigned a Friday afterschool detention. The detention will go from after school until the homework is finished. Please help your student practice study skills by checking agendas and completed homework.

A Note from Miss Pearson

Hello again!
It's amazing to think that the first nine weeks is almost over. We have two more weeks in the grading period, and students are working hard on their grades.
Just a few small notes this week. First, conferences this year are going to be done a bit differently. There are no scheduled days for conferences, however I am hoping to meet with all of my students' parents sometime in the month of October. I am available most evenings until around 6, I can also schedule meetings during my prep which is everyday from 9:45-10:20. I can also come in early in the morning if that works best for your schedule. Please be on the lookout for a letter regarding conferences in your student's Monday folder. This will help me schedule times.
Second, band will be starting up. Please be aware that students that leave at 2:10 three days a week are going to be missing 20 minutes of their reading time. Please make sure they are reading at least that much every night. Band students will be bringing home a reading log that parents will have to sign every night there is band. All students should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes a night and practicing spelling.
As always please leave me an e-mail or a voicemail if there are any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Miss Pearson

Welcome back!
We are underway in our fifth week of school. Time is really flying, and I just wanted to make a few announcements.
First mid terms do go home this week. Please be looking for them as they need to be signed and brought back. I feel that many of my students will be disappointed with their spelling and math grades. Spelling grades have slipped the past few weeks, and I am not quite sure why. Please take a moment to practice with your student! The best way that I have found to study spelling is focus on a few words a night. I feel math grades might also be disappointing as well. I have several students missing math homework and that will directly affect their grade. Please help them to develop responsibility
skills.
Second, please be on the lookout for important documents that will hopefully be coming your way soon! One of which is the candy bar sales permission form. It will explain everything on the handout. Also I am in the process of planning a/the field trip/s for this year. In the next month or so please be looking for those handouts as well.
Thank you for all of your support and as always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. I always check me e-mail and I'm forcing myself to look at my classroom phone to see if I have any messages.
Sincerely,
Miss Pearson
Hello!
It's hard to believe that the school year is already three weeks underway. I feel pretty good about where we are, and I feel that we're starting to get routines and expectations perfected. I'm sure your student has mentioned the science and math series that we are using this year. I am excited about both of them. The math series is a lot more detailed and involved than the old one, but it incorporates a lot of new ideas and practices. Many of those practices involve using educational games in the classroom. Please ask your student about them and have them explain them to you. Also at the beginning of each unit the students will be bringing a family letter home. The family letter does contain some answers to the homework. Please use that as a study guide as students know that they still have to show work! I am also really excited about the new science series. It seems to be a lot easier to read and has a lot more hands on experiments!
That's all for now, but please continue to e-mail me or leave me a message at school if you have any questions or concerns about anything.
Sincerely,
Miss Pearson
